Canada advance to Concacaf Final in Las Vegas after 2:0 win over Panama

Canada have advanced to Sunday’s Concacaf Nations League Final in Las Vegas following an impressive 2:0 victory over Panama in Thursday’s Semifinals. Jonathan David and Alphonso Davies were the Canadian goalscorers on either side of the break.

“The match today was needed, it was something that tests you mentally, physically and emotionally,” said John Herdman, Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team Head Coach. “We were hungry, going into this we knew we had something special. The future is now for us so we’re going to take these to two days to get this team recovered and ready for Sunday. We’re here to take this country to the next level and lift that trophy.”

Canada will face USA in the Concacaf Final on Sunday 18 June at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, NV, USA. David delivered Canada’s Performance of the Match with both a goal and an assist while goalkeeper Milan Borjan and the backline posted the clean sheet. David scored his 25th career goal with the assist from Kamal Miller in the 25th minute, then Davies scored the 14th goal of his career with an assist from David in the 70th minute.

“It was an unbelievable game by the boys, we knew coming into this game we had to play hard and finish strong and that’s what we did today,” said Alphonso Davies after the win. “We are happy that we got the win and now we’re off to the Final. We need to keep the same mentality, the same energy, the same intensity and move into the next game.”
