Barrett hitting his stride with Toronto FC

Could Chad Barrett be hitting his stride with Toronto FC. If yes, his opponents in Vancouver and Montréal could be in trouble this 2010 season of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship. Barrett scored once on Match Day One of the championship on 28 April, but it is his two-goal performance in league play on 8 May that suggests he could be in store for more.

Toronto FC still has three matches to play in the 2010 Nutrilite Canadian Championship, starting with the Wednesday 12 May match against Impact Montréal at Stade Saputo. The match kicks off at 20.00 local time and will be broadcast live on Rogers Sportsnet (20.00 ET / 17.00 PT).

“I am pretty happy with my overall play and my strength,” said Barrett. “It is all about punching goals away. Scoring two goals (against the Chicago Fire of MLS) is definitely going to help my confidence.”

With three goals in two years, Barrett is tied with teammate Dwayne De Rosario for most goals in the Championship’s short history. All three of Barrett’s goals have come against Montréal – one for each match played against the Impact.

“The way we moved the ball (against Chicago) was nice,” said Toronto FC head coach Preki. “I keep telling them (if) we play one and two touch, it can be very potent and dangerous. I thought Chad and the rest of the group executed pretty good; they were pretty good goals.”

The Barrett-led win was a Toronto FC 4:1 victory over Chicago Fire at BMO Field on Saturday 8 May. In seven Major League Soccer matches, Toronto FC has three wins – all at home – and four losses – all on the road. Toronto’s next Nutrilite Canadian Championship is, of course, on the road.

The 2010 Nutrilite Canadian Championship runs six consecutive Wednesday nights from 28 April to 2 June. The three-team competition features Impact Montréal, Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. All six matches will be broadcast on Rogers Sportsnet.
