Alistair Johnston helped Celtic FC capture the 2022-23 Scottish Premiership after a 2:0 win over Heart of Midlothian FC on Sunday 7 May. The historic Glasgow club captured their 53rd league title with four matches remaining in the 2022-23 season and 13 points clear of crosstown rivals Rangers FC who are in second place.
It is already a second trophy for Johnston since joining Celtic FC in January following the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in December. In February, Johnston helped Celtic FC beat Rangers FC for the 2023 Scottish League Cup. Upcoming in June, Celtic FC will face Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC in the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park.
Across all competitions, Johnston has already featured 18 times for Celtic FC in the Premiership, Scottish League Cup, and Scottish Cup. He scored his first goal on 5 March against St. Mirren FC and then earned Man of the Match honours in an important 3:2 win over Rangers FC on 8 April 2023. He suffered an injury on 30 April and thus missed the title-clinching match on 7 May.
Johnston was born in North Vancouver, British Columbia and grew up in Aurora, Ontario. Just last year, he helped Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team finish in first place in the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers as they returned to the men’s FIFA World Cup for the first time in 36 years. For the second year in a row, he led Canada in both international “A” appearances and minutes played.
