Match Report

Canada Women's National Team was defeated by the United States 1:0 in the CONCACAF W Championship Final in Mexico. Canada will face third-place Jamaica in a play-in match next September to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Kailen Sheridan started strong with an incredible save in the first minute of the match against the USA.

Canada had their first chance in the 7' after passes from Janine Beckie, and Christine Sinclair created an opportunity for a shot for Nichelle Prince from the left edge of the box. But, USA keeper Alyssa Naeher saved her attempt.

Nichelle Prince had another chance in the 17' creating space between two defenders and getting her shot off but outside the box and deflected off the bar.

Kailen Sheridan made a huge save in the 31' as the US got past the defence and made a shot from the right corner of the box.

Jayde Riviere made a goal-saving header inside the box and stopped any chance of a goal from the US in the 40'.

Sheridan made another out-of-this-world save, catching the ball between her legs in extra time of the first half.

Sheridan saved another shot from just outside the middle of the box to keep the match scoreless in the 66'.

Alex Morgan opened the scoring for the US after being awarded a penalty kick inside the box in the 78'.

Ashley Lawrence had an opportunity from the left corner of the box to tie up the game, but the ball went just over the net in the 87'.

The US keeper saved the last effort from Julia Grosso in extra time from inside the left corner of the box.

Kailen Sheridan won the player of the match for Canada for her solid performance throughout the game.

Canada's Starting XI saw Kailen Sheridan start in goal. Ashley Lawrence, Kadeisha Buchanan, Vanessa Gilles and Jayde Riviere formed the back line. Desiree Scott, Quinn, and Jessie Fleming started in midfield, with Nichelle Prince, Janine Beckie, and Captain Christine Sinclair leading the attack.

Head Coach Bev Priestman made a substitution in the 57', bringing Julia Grosso in place for Quinn. Allysha Chapman came in for Jayde Riviere (61'). Jordyn Huitema and Adriana Leon came on for Christine Sinclair and Nichelle Prince (68').
