Canada finished in 8th place at the 2002 Algarve Cup, the ninth edition of the women's international competition organised in Portugal (hosted by the Federação Portuguesa de Futebol). The competition expanded from eight to 12 teams, with only the nations in Groups A and B eligible to win the tournament. Canada won Group C with perfect nine points and advance to the match for 7th place, but lost 0:3 to Finland in the 7 March finale.
