In their final match at the SheBelieves Cup Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team lost 3:0 to Japan.

In the 22nd minute, Canada started to see the product of their tactics. The team's quick ball movement saw a string of passes reach Beckie, who turned a Japanese defender in the 18-yard box. But before Beckie could pull the trigger, the Japanese defender recovered a sliding tackle to poke the ball out for a corner.

Canada came close to scoring again, this time on the counterattack. Canada found themselves in a four-on-four attacking situation, with Christine Sinclair as the ball carrier. Sinclair sprayed the ball to Lacasse on her left, Lacasse cut in and curled a right-footed cross to the back-post. Her pass found Janine Beckie, who just put her shot past the post

Japan broke the deadlock in the 27th minute when Kiko Seike was through on goal with Sabrina D’Angelo, taking advantage of a Japanese counterattack. Seike slid her shot past a rushing D’Angelo, who picked up an injury while she tried to make the save. The injury to D’Angelo saw Kailen Sheridan enter the game in the 30th minute. Japan added their second of the match with a 41st penalty from Yui Hasegawa.

In the second half, Canadian head coach Bev Priestman made several subs to spark an attacking situation. Jordyn Huitema, Gabrielle Carle, and Adriana Leon entered the match after the break. Sophie Schmidt was brought on in the 55th minute and Clarissa Larisey in the 68th minute.

As Canada continued to attack in the second half, it created more space in Canada’s defensive end for Japan to target on the counterattack. That was the case in the ladder moments of the match when Jun Endo scored Japan’s third goal on the counterattack.
