Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced its Men's World Cup Team will play Switzerland in a full international friendly on May 15, 2002 in Switzerland. The site of the game will be announced in the near future.  

The game in May will mark the first time the two countries have faced each other at the senior national level. Switzerland finished fourth in Group 1 in World Cup Qualifying, behind Russia, Slovenia and Yugoslavia. Their final qualifying game was on October 6, 2001 when they lost 4-0 to group winners Russia. Switzerland will face Sweden on March 27 prior to facing Canada.

Ottawa, Ontario - Canadian Men's World Cup Team head coach Holger Osieck today announced the 16-man roster for the international friendly against Switzerland on May 15 in St. Gallen, Switzerland.  


The roster includes goalkeeper Pat Onstad, who has fully recovered from a wrist injury and is rejoining the national team for the first time since the Confederations Cup. Also named to the squad is Jeff Clarke, who was on the 22-man roster at the Confederations Cup but did not play. He is currently playing with the A-League's Vancouver Whitecaps. 

Of the 16 players named for the friendly, 11 were part of the squad which finished in third place at the 2002 Gold Cup. The others are Tomasz Radzinski, Martin Nash, who scored for the Rochester Rhinos on Saturday in their season opener, Paul Fenwick, Clarke and Onstad.

The team will assemble in St. Gallen on Sunday, May 12. The game on May 15th kick-off at 6:00 p.m. local time.
