Toronto, Ontario – Canada's Women's World Cup Team fought to a 2-2 draw with the United States in an exciting international featuring both countries' top teams at Varsity Stadium in Toronto, Ontario in front of a sell-out crowd of 9,023. It was the largest crowd to ever watch a Canadian women's game.
Canada's Charmaine Hooper had a 22-yard free kick go off the inside of the post in the 71st minute which would have given Canada its third straight win over the Americans. Hooper and Christine Latham linked up beautifully minutes later only to see Latham's volley just miss the far post.
Christine Sinclair and the USA's Tiffeny Milbrett exchanged goals less than a minute apart early in the second half after the teams entered the dressing rooms knotted at 1-1.
The Canadians opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Hooper hammered home a loose ball right on the goal line. The goal came after a great free kick from Kristina Kiss was headed toward goal by Andrea Neil. It was Hooper's all-time leading 48th goal in her 78th appearance for Canada.
The Americans evened the scoring in the 28th minute when Shannon MacMillan scored from 30 yards out. Her long -range shot took a bad bounce in front of goalkeeper Taryn Swiatek and ricocheted over her shoulder. MacMillan could have have made it 2-1 minutes later when her fierce drive was saved brilliantly by Swiatek who deflected the shot off her left post.
The game was the first ever for Canadian head coach Even Pellerud on home soil after 28 games abroad. He is now 13-2-14 at the helm.

Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Women's World Cup Team head coach Even Pellerud today released his selection of players to compete in Canada's home and away series against the United States on June 30 and July 3. Canada's home game will take place at Varsity Stadium in Toronto at 7:00 p.m. on June 30. The United States will host Canada in Blaine, Minnesota on July 3 at the National Sports Center at 1:00 p.m. Full squads for both teams will be present as this marks the first time both teams have met since Canada's 3-1 victory over the United States on November 11, 2000.
Canada's Under-19 women's team will face their US counterparts at 4:30 at Varsity Stadium on June 30 followed by a second match on July 2 at Birchmount Stadium in conjunction with the Robbie Tournament.
The game in Toronto will mark the first time Charmaine Hooper has played at home since became Canada's all time leader for international appearances with 77 caps. Hooper broke Gerry Donnelly's record of 72 caps on March 15, 2001 against Portugal during the 8th Algarve Cup. United States captain Julie Foudy could become the third player ever to achieve her 200th cap during the Canada-US series. If Foudy plays in either game, she will join the likes of Mia Hamm and Kristine Lilly who have achieved 216 and 265 caps respectively.
