Ottawa, Ontario - The Canadian Soccer Association today announced its Women's World Cup Team will play the United States in Columbus, Ohio on November 11 at 4:00 p.m. EST. The game will be played at the Columbus Crew Stadium.

This will be Canada's 18th game in the year 2000 under new head coach Even Pellerud, who has posted a record of 9-1-7 since taking over the program in November 1999. It's the highest number of games ever played by a Canadian women's national team in one year. This will also be the fifth game played between the two countries this year. The last time the two met was on August 20 in a friendly in Kansas City when Canada ended a 21-game losing streak against their southern neighbors with a 1-1 draw. 

The Canadians are 1-1-22 in their history against the Americans who lost the Gold Medal Game at the Sydney Olympics to Norway on September 28. The game is part of a three-game tour by the U.S., which has been dubbed the “Glory Tour”. The Americans will also play Mexico and an opponent to be named later.

The Canadian roster for the November 11 game will be announced in mid-October.

“As a head coach for a team still in a building phase, I am happy to get this opportunity to throw my players to the wolves again. My team and my players learn every time we play against the top teams in the World, and the USA is definitely one of those teams,” said Pellerud who is 9-1-7 since taking over in November, 1999. 

The Canadian squad will be without several regulars due to their University and College team commitments, including Breanna Boyd (Nebraska), Christine Latham (Nebraska), Karina LeBlanc (Nebraska) and Isabelle Harvey (USC). 

As a result, Pellerud has selected three newcomers in forward Kim Warner (George Washington), midfielder Katie Hodge (Maine) and goalkeeper Kathryn Clewely (Greensboro-NC) as well as calling in forward Stephanie O'Neill (Calgary) for the first time this year.

This game will complete a very busy year for the Women's World Cup team, which will have played 18 games in 2000 and which can expect an equally full 2001 season, beginning with a training camp in Ottawa from January 4-12, 2001.
