Match Report

Canada won 2:1 over Chile on the second day of the Copa América IFCPF in Sangolquí, Quito, ECU. Canada scored once in each half before Chile cut the lead in half, but Canada stuck it out for the victory and important three points in the competition's group phase.

Samuel Charron opened the scoring with a long, low free kick in the 11th minute. Diego Gilbert then made it 2-0 after Charron fired a shot that was too hot to handle for the Chilean goalkeeper in the 48th minute. The ball bounced out of the goalkeeper's hands and Gilbert was on the spot to score his first international goal.

Canada would have liked to have scored more and they were given a scare after Chile cut the lead in half, but the Canadian defence held strong to close out the last five minutes on top. They next face Brazil on Tuesday 30 October to close out the group phase.

For the second day in a row, Canada featured three teenagers amongst their seven starters.

LINEUP & NOTES:
Canada's starting lineup featured Damien Wojtiw in goal, Ryan Watson and Lucas Bruno as fullbacks, Duncan McDonald as a holding midfielder with Samuel Charron and Gaerrisen Freeland on the wings, and Diego Gilbert up front. In the first half, coach Drew Ferguson replaced Bruno with Dustin Hodgson.
