Match Report

Vancouver Whitecaps FC defeated the Calvary FC in penalties to advance to the semi-final round for a match-off against Canadian Premier League’s York United.

The performance of the match went to Myer Bevan for his beauty of a goal from outside the box in the 71’.

In the 45’ Whitecaps FC’s Cristian Gutierrez finds Ryan Gauld in the 6-yard box, who puts a shot on the net but it’s stopped by Cavalry’s Marco Carducci.

The match started pretty slow with no teams scoring in the first half.

In the 52’ of the second half, Daan Klomp took a shot on goal from a corner kick set-piece but wasn’t able to score.

Elliot Simmons took a shot just outside the box in the 57’ but missed over the top bar.

Victor Loturi made a pass to Simmons who passed it to Myer Bevan who turned outside the box and fired a shot from distance off his right foot into the far right corner of the goal for the first goal of the match (71’).

Vancouver Whitecaps FC scored to equalize the match at 1:1 with Erik Godoy getting on the end of a corner kick from Deiber Caicedo to score off of his head into the back of the net (85’) but ended up being recorded as an own goal from Calvary’s Daan Klomp.

The match looked slow at the start but started to pick up near the end, especially with five minutes to play in added time. After the five minutes with no goal, the match went to penalties.

Calvary FC’s starting lineup featured seven Canadian players: Captain Mason Trafford, goalkeeper Marco Carducci, Charles Trafford, Ali Musse, Elliot Simmons, Jean-Aniel Assi and Karifa Yao.

Head coach Thomas Wheeldon brought on Victor Loturi for Charlie Trafford (67’), and Jean-Aniel Assi came on for Sergio Camargo (67’).

Vancouver Whitecap FC’s starting XI featured five Canadians: Captain Russell Teibert, Cristian Gutierrez, Lucas Cavallini, Ryan Raposo and Michael Baldisimo.
