Canadians One Win Away From China

Seattle, Washington – Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team are one win away from a berth in the 2003 Women’s World Cup in China. The Canadians will face Mexico tonight at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington at 9:30 p.m. PT (Rogers Sportsnet) in one semi-final of the Gold Cup while the United States plays Costa Rica. Both winners will gain automatic spots in the 4th Women’s World Cup.



The Canadians head into the game with all of their players fit to play. The team practised at Safeco Field on Tuesday and will fly to Los Angeles on Thursday morning.

The Canadians will be looking to clinch their third straight trip to the Women’s World Cup after successfully qualifying in 1995 and 1999.



The final of the competition will be played at 7:00 p.m. PT at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on Saturday. The two losers from tonight’s semi-finals will play in the third-place game at 5:00 p.m. PT. The winner of that game will face an Asian team for a third and final spot in the World Cup.
