The Vancouver Whitecaps are also well represented with Kara Lang, Andrea Neil, Christine Sinclair, and Brittany Timko.
England, one of the top ranked countries in the world, was narrowly eliminated by France 1-0 for the fifth and final spot in European qualifying play last November for the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
England has one of the best teams in Europe, said Pellerud. I would rank them among top 12 in the world. They play with typical British organization and enthusiasm, and the team will be a strong and a relevant opponent for our team in the ongoing effort to prepare for 2003 World Cup.
England will arrive in Montreal on Saturday May 17th, following their game against the United States.
The match in Montreal will be played at Catalogna Soccerplexe in Lachine at 7:00 p.m. All tickets are general admission and are priced at $5 per person and are available through the Quebec Soccer Federation (FQSF): 514-252-3068 or www.federation-soccer.qc.ca.
I strongly hope that fans in Montreal will give us the support we need. All the staff and players look forward to playing in Quebec. This will be the first women’s international game in Montreal since 1998, added Pellerud.
The Catalogna Soccerplexe is located at 775, 1ère avenue, Lachine. The outdoor pitch is an international sized facility featuring a FieldTurf playing surface.
The second game of the series will be played at Ottawa’s Frank Clair Stadium at 7:00 p.m. on May 22, 2003. Frank Clair is a 30,000 seat facility featuring a FieldTurf playing surface. The pitch has received FIFA recommended status and is therefore eligible to be used for international play at any level.
Tickets are still available through Ticketmaster for the Ottawa match. Tickets are priced at $12.00 and $18.00 plus handling and convenience charges and will be available at all Ticketmaster ticket centers, the Ottawa Ticketmaster charge-by-phone centre at (613) 755-1166, and on the Ticketmaster website (www.ticketmaster.ca).
The Canadian team will meet in Montreal on Thursday, May 15th to begin their preparations for the two friendlies.
