Canada will compete against China PR, Sweden, and the United States. Canada received their first invitation to the annual tournament after Germany and Norway backed out. The competition will be played on a “Single Round Robin” format.

“Due to the team’s performance at the Women’s World Cup 2003, we received this opportunity to replace Norway in this prestigious Four Nation Tournament in China. The three games against China, USA and Sweden will provide the best possible game experience leading up to the Olympic qualifier in Costa Rica next month, as they will come with their best teams and offer excellent competition,” said Pellerud.

“Going to China will also serve as a great opportunity for our first stage of preparation for the next Women’s World Cup, to be played in China in 2007.”

The roster is comprised of 15-players from the recent 2003 Women’s World Cup roster.

Calgary native Aysha Jamani will join the senior squad for the first time. Jamani recently started in all three Under-19 games against Trinidad & Tobago and amassed four goals. Ottawa Fury and University of Tennessee midfielder/defender Marie-Eve Nault, of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, who was invited to Pellerud’s last camp held in December of 2003 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was also added to the roster. Veronique Maranda of Montreal who played her last game with the senior team against Brazil on July 17, 2003 will return for this tournament.

“Unfortunately the team still suffers from a number of injuries; Candace Chapman and Breanna Boyd still need more time, Christine Latham and Kara Lang are injured at the moment and will not travel with the team. This gives us room to look at other players like Marie-Eve Nault and Aysha Jamani. Randee Hermus is back in the squad again after her World Cup bone fractures,” added Pellerud.
