Canada will have daily training sessions in the leadup to match. The Wednesday session features players arriving from local, college and European clubs. The remaining six players, all from Women’s Professional Soccer clubs in the United States, will be in gear for the first full session on Thursday. Canada practices Thursday and Friday in Vaughan: 21 May at 10.00 (Father Bulfon) and 15.00 (Vaughan Grove) and 22 May at 10.00 (Father Bulfon) and 15.00 (Father Bulfon).

Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners and whose presenting sponsor is Teck, has one of the best women’s programs in the world. Just last year, Canada reached the quarter-final stage at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament. USA, of course, is the world’s number-one ranked women’s football nation. At those same Olympics last year, USA counted on an extra-time goal to eliminate Canada in the quarter-final stage en route to a gold-medal victory in the championship match.

This 25 May will be the first rematch between Canada and USA since last year’s Olympics. It is the 45th meeting between the two sides, but the first on Canadian soil since 2001. Canada presently owns a six-game unbeaten streak at home (three wins and three draws), including most recently a 1:1 draw with Brazil last 10 July at BMO Field.
