Canadian women announce roster for camp in USA

Canada’s women’s national team has announced the roster for its two-week camp in Gaithersburg, MD. The camp runs 18-27 May and precedes the national team’s trip to Hamar, Norway for an international match against Norway. The camp is part of Canada’s 2010 preparations for the 2010 CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup, expected to be played this October and November.



Coach Morace has selected 28 players for the 10-day camp, including Melanie Booth, Jonelle Filigno and Kelly Parker who are all recovering from injury. Not all players will be available for the trip to Norway, most notably those that are not 100% recovered or those that have to return to their Women’s Professional Soccer clubs before the end of the month. Unavailable to the USA camp is Diana Matheson, who is in Norway recovering from injury.



This camp marks an important stage in the preparation for the 2010 CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup, which serves as the qualification phase for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011. As part of the camp, Canada will play an exhibition match against WPS club Washington Freedom on Sunday 23 May.



Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners and presenting sponsor is Teck, is currently ranked 10th on the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking. Canada has qualified for each of the past four FIFA Women’s World Cups dating back to Sweden 1995.
