Canada remains in first place at the 2011 Yongchuan Cup Four-Nation Women’s Tournament, but their ranking comes after a disappointing loss to the world’s number-one ranked USA on Sunday 23 January. Canada lost 1:2 to USA, with all three goals scored in the second half.
In truth, all four teams are even after Match Day 2 with three points apiece – a win and a loss. China PR won 2:1 over Sweden in the other Sunday match. All four teams are also even on goal differential, with Canada and China having scored four goals apiece and Sweden and USA having scored three goals apiece.
The last day of the competition is Tuesday 25 January. Canada will face Sweden in the first match and then USA will face China PR in the tournament closer. All tournament matches are played at the Olympic Sports Center in the Yongchuan District of Chongqing, China PR.
Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners and presenting sponsor is Teck, is currently preparing for this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011. It will mark Canada’s fifth participation in a FIFA Women’s World Cup.
