Sinclair named Most Valuable Player

Christine Sinclair has been named Most Valuable Player of the 2011 Yongchuan Cup Four-Nation Women’s Tournament. Sinclair was selected the best player from the six-match, four-team tournament that ran 21-25 January in the Yongchuan District in Chongqing, China.



“We showed to China’s people that we have one of the best players in the world,” said Canadian national coach Carolina Morace. “Christine Sinclair, for me, is actually the best player in the world. She’s smart, she’s fast and she plays for the team. In this tournament, we showed that we had the best player on our team.”



Sinclair provided the pace for Canada, scoring a pair of goals in the come-from-behind victory against China PR and the lone goal in the victory over Sweden. Her play helped Canada finish second behind USA. Both Canada and USA finished tied with six points (two wins and one loss), but USA finished first because they won the head-to-head battle against Canada on Match Day Two.



Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners and presenting sponsor is Teck, is currently preparing for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011. Sinclair finished first on the team with three goals. Tancredi scored the other two goals and also provided a pair of assists on Sinclair’s two goals against China PR.
