Winnipeg, Manitoba – The Canadian Soccer Association announced today it has secured the Canadian rights to broadcast the Women’s Gold Cup later this month. CTV Sportsnet will broadcast live Canada’s Women’s World Cup team’s opening round games against China on June 26 and Guatemala on June 28. Should Canada advance to the semi-finals, third-place game or final, the network will air the games at a time to be determined.
“We are extremely pleased to have reached this agreement,” said CSA Chief Operating Officer Kevan Pipe. “Coming on the heels of our great victory over China at the Pacific Cup, we felt it was very important to show our women’s team, so this is great news.”
The Canadians will open round robin play against Mexico on June 24 in Foxboro, Mass before travelling to Hershey, PA to face China on June 26 and then on to Louisville, KY for their final opening round game against Guatemala on June 28. The semi-finals will be played in Louisville on July 1 with the third-place game and final slated for July 3 in Foxboro.
Canada defeated China for the first time in its history on June 8 at the Pacific Cup and will play in their final game of the tournament on June 11 with a chance of winning the six-team event. The Canadians are in a three-way tie with the United States and China heading into the final day of competition on Sunday. Canada faces Japan in its final game.
