Canada Soccer has announced the list of nominees for the 2018 Canada Soccer Player of the Year Awards, with voting open for media and coaches from 27 November through 6 December. At the top of the list are the nominees for the 2018 Canadian Players of the Year, celebrating the top male and female footballers from the 2018 calendar season.
Media and coaches will vote for the Canadian Players of the Year while only coaches will vote on the new Canadian Youth International Players of the Year award. Both a male and female player will be selected for each award. Canada Soccer staff coaches will select the 2018 Canadian Para Soccer Player of the Year and the Canadian Futsal Player of the Year.
The Canadian Youth International Players of the Year award celebrates Canada’s top two youth footballers in recognition of their achievements with Canada Soccer’s National Youth Teams, with an emphasis on their performance at age-category international competitions. In 2018, this will include performances from the U-15 to U-21 age categories in FIFA and Concacaf tournaments as well as the U-21 Toulon Tournament in France (Men). This new award replaces the previous U-17 and U-20 awards.
The Allstate Canadian National Teams Good Hands Award, recognizing the top save by Canada’s National Team goalkeepers during international play, will be announced on Thursday 6 December. Canadian soccer fans can vote for their top save of the year via CanadaSoccer.com, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter through Saturday 1 December. All fans who vote for their top save will have the opportunity to be entered to win a Canadian National Team signed jersey.
