Parker wins W-League MVP award

Kelly Parker of the Buffalo Flash was named W-League Most Valuable Player for the 2010 season. Parker was one of five year-end award winners announced by the United Soccer Leagues on Friday 30 July. Parker is the league’s first repeat winner of the MVP award.



While Parker won MVP honours, Vancouver Whitecaps head coach Hubert Busby, Jr. won Coach of the Year honours. Other award winners were Rashidah Sherman (New York Magic) for Rookie of the Year, Sue Weber (Long Island Rough Riders) for Defender of the Year, and Alyssa Whitehead (Charlotte Lady Eagle) for Goalkeeper of the Year.



In 2010, Parker led the Flash to an unbeaten record of 10 wins and two draws in 12 matches. Parker led the league with 11 goals and 27 points.



Parker of Saskatoon, SK is an integral member of Canada’s women’s national team. This 2010 season, she has played in five international matches and helped Canada win its second Cyprus Women’s Cup. She also scored her first international goal in a 2:1 win over Switzerland on 24 February 2010.



Parker previously won the W-League Most Valuable Player award in 2004 with the Ottawa Fury. As a youth player, she was the 1998 Saskatchewan Soccer Association Female Player of the Year in 1998.



The Flash and Vancouver Whitecaps (6-4-0) were the only unbeaten W-League teams during the 2010 regular season. The two teams will meet in the Saturday 31 July final.
