Sophie Schmidt was recognized at a University of Portland Pilots match on Sunday 18 September. Canada’s Schmidt and USA’s Megan Rapinoe were both honoured at half time of the Portland-USC women’s soccer match. The two former UP footballers were in town in advance of the 22 September Women’s International Friendly match at Jeld-Wen Field.

The two former UP footballers were in town in advance of the 22 September Women’s International Friendly match at Jeld-Wen Field.
Schmidt played at the University of Portland from 2007 through 2010. She scored 40 goals during her collegiate career. At the international level, she has represented Canada at two FIFA Women’s World Cups (2007, 2011) and one Women’s Olympic Football Tournament (2008). She was Canadian U-20 Player of the Year in 2007.
Canada faces USA this Thursday 22 September at Jeld-Wen Field in Portland, OR. The first match of the two-match series finished in a 1:1 draw in Kansas City, KS on 17 September.
At the Portland-USC match, Schmidt and Rapinoe also handed out tickets to four lucky fans for the Canada-USA match on Thursday.
