Toronto’s 9 de Octubre FC won their third Futsal Canadian Championship in four years after they beat Atlético Gatineau in the 2026 Canadian Final at Calgary. Joshua Paredes, Christian Samaniego and Raheem Rose were the three Toronto goalscorers at the Chief Jim Starlight Centre inside the 7 Chiefs Sportsplex in Tsuut’ina Nation.
Samaniego was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Samaniego is now a five-time Canadian champion, having won two titles with Toronto Idolo Futsal (2018, 2019) and now three titles with 9 de Octubre (2023, 2024, 2026). The 2026 Canadian Final was a rematch of last year’s Canadian Final (which Gatineau won 3:2) as well as a rematch of the opening match of the tournament (which Toronto won 4-3 on penalties).
Toronto’s winning squad featured Jason Alvarado, Andy Baquero, Daniel Chamale, Luis Escobar, Joshua Lemos, Sebastián López, Joshua Parades, Alejandro Portal, Matthew Rios, Marco Rodriguez, Raheem Rose, Christian Samaniego, John Smits, and Ryan Whittingham.
This year’s Futsal Canadian Championship was hosted by the Calgary United Soccer Association in partnership with Tourism Calgary. A proven host city that features world-class facilities and friendly volunteers, the Blue Sky City was again the destination for the best futsal clubs in Canada. With a record 10 provinces and territories represented across the men’s and women’s divisions, the 2026 Futsal Canadian Championship featured an enhanced format that included Quarterfinals and Semifinals for the first time. Matches were broadcast live on FIFA+ including both Canadian Finals on Sunday 12 April. Both Canadian Finals featured a terrific atmosphere with approximately 475 fans in attendance for the men’s Final.
At the elite club level, Canada Soccer supports domestic futsal through the annual Futsal Canadian Championship for men and women. The Men’s Futsal Canadian Championship was launched in 2015, with the Women’s Futsal Canadian Championship introduced in 2023, reflecting the continued growth of the sport nationwide. This past year, Canada qualified for the first edition of the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup™.
