Canada Soccer announced today that Kenneth Heiner-Møller has been appointed as the organization’s new Sporting Director, National Teams, marking a significant step in building an integrated technical framework that supports long-term success for the Women’s, Men’s and Youth National Teams.

Heiner-Møller, a highly respected leader in international football, will transition into the role over the coming months while completing his current responsibilities as Technical Director at San Diego FC. He is expected to be engaged full time with Canada Soccer this summer as part of a planned and structured transition.

Having previously worked within the organization, I understand its responsibility in shaping the game nationally while keeping Canada competitive internationally. When I come on board in the next few months, I look forward to setting a clear sporting direction with strong colleagues and working closely with clubs, leagues, provinces, and territories to support continued alignment and growth across the game.” ​

A familiar and trusted figure within the Canadian soccer landscape, Heiner-Møller previously served as Head Coach of Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team and held leadership roles within the Danish Football Association, including Head Coach of Denmark’s Women’s National Team and Technical Director for the Denmark Men’s National Team. His extensive background spans some of the highest levels of international competition and technical leadership across both the men’s and women’s games.

In his new role, Heiner-Møller will work closely with Canada Soccer’s senior national team coaches and technical stakeholders across the country to develop an overarching, systematized technical approach for Canadian football. This strategy will ensure alignment across senior and youth national teams and advance collaborative, evidence-based development pathways nationwide.

The transition period will enable Heiner-Møller to focus on key priorities that follow this summer’s FIFA World Cup cycle, positioning Canada Soccer to strengthen its technical direction and capitalize on the momentum of the sport’s growth in Canada. Heiner-Møller will join Canada Soccer’s Executive Team. ​

Canada Soccer will share further updates as Heiner-Møller begins engaging with technical staff, provincial and territorial partners, and other key stakeholders over the coming months. ​
