CANW17 underfeated in group stage, advance to Round of 16 to face Zambia
Canada Soccer’s Women’s U-17 National Team (CANW17) has secured first place in Group D at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2025™, advancing to the Round of 16 following a perfect group-stage performance.
Canada opened its tournament campaign with a commanding 4-1 win over Nigeria, followed by a 6-0 victory against Samoa, and closed the group stage with a 2-1 win over France to finish with a record of three wins in three matches.
“We came into this tournament believing we could top the group. From the first whistle, the players showed incredible focus, commitment, and true unity, and I couldn’t be prouder. This result is a testament to how close-knit and determined this team is. I have full belief in this group’s ability to go all the way.”
– Jen Herst,U17 Women’s Head Coach and Women’s Youth Excel Program Lead
This marks only the second time, and the first since 2002, that a Canadian youth national team has won all three of its group-stage matches at a FIFA tournament. Canada also achieved a milestone with its first-ever victory over France in a FIFA youth competition. The team scored 12 goals distributed among eight different players and conceded just two goals across the three games.
With the top-of-group finish in hand, Canada progresses to the Round of 16 where it will face one of the tournament’s four best third-place finishers Zambia, on Wednesday 29 October at 20.00 local (17.00 ET / 14.00 PT) at Football Academy Mohammed VI.
