A Sitdown With Jayden Nelson

Jayden Nelson opens up ahead of the 2025 TELUS Canadian Championship Final.

Q: How did you fall in love with soccer?

A: I fell in love with soccer just by playing as a kid and learning new skills everyday, I used to watch a ton of YouTube videos of skill compilations and tried to perfect them.

Q: You’ve played in MLS, in Europe and now that you’re back in Canada, how have those experiences shaped you as a player?

A: It shaped me as a player because I know where I want to go in the sport and me having that experience in Europe gave me an idea of what I need to do and how to be successful abroad.

Q: Looking back, what’s been the toughest challenge in your career so far, and how did you push through it?

A: The toughest challenge I faced was when I was in Germany and I wasn’t playing. It was difficult because it was kind of unexpected. But that experience alone changed my perspective of football and how I approach my games and training everyday.

Q: What would lifting the trophy with Vancouver Whitecaps mean to you at this stage of your career?

A: It would mean a lot to lift a trophy this season just because of how hard we’ve worked as team to get to this point and being able to win 4 years in a row!

Q: Who inspires you?

A: My mom inspires me because she’s the hardest working person I know and just thinking about the sacrifices she had to make to get me to where I am today means a lot to me. My grandpa also inspires me just solely off the belief he has in me to reach my highest level and he gives me that extra push to be the best I can be.
