Alexandre Da Rocha Named Head Coach of Canadian Women’s Futsal Team

Alexandre Da Rocha Becomes First-Ever Head Coach of the Canadian Women’s Futsal Team

Canada Soccer is thrilled to announce the appointment of Alexandre Da Rocha as the first-ever Head Coach of the Canadian Women’s Futsal Team. A seasoned coach with a wealth of experience across both futsal and soccer, Da Rocha brings over two decades of expertise to this pivotal role.

Since 2019, Da Rocha has served as Assistant Coach for the Canadian Men’s Futsal National Team, where he played an integral role in achieving a program-best 6th place finish in the 2021 Concacaf Futsal Championship. His coaching journey began in Quebec, where he served as the Head Coach for provincial futsal teams from 1997 to 2012, before taking on the role of Sporting Director for Xtreme Futsal Club in 2014, a position he’s held to this day.

Da Rocha’s commitment to futsal is matched by his extensive experience in soccer, where he has coached at the provincial level, including leading Quebec’s women’s provincial futsal teams from 2014 to 2020. Additionally, Da Rocha has a strong history in national programs, having served as the Head Coach of the Canadian Women’s Team at the 2018 FISU Games and as Assistant Coach for the U-20 Women’s National Team during the 2012 World Cup in Japan. His leadership in soccer also includes a stint as Head Coach of Xtreme Montreal in the W-League from 2003 to 2004.

In addition to his coaching roles, Da Rocha has demonstrated his expertise as a television analyst for both futsal and soccer. Since 2012, he has been a trusted voice for RDS, offering insightful analysis of soccer and futsal events, including his work as a television analyst for the Futsal World Cup in 2021.

Canada Soccer is confident that Da Rocha’s vision and leadership will guide the Canadian Women’s Futsal Team to new heights on the international stage.

“Canada Soccer takes another step forward with the establishment of a national women’s futsal team and the appointment of Alexandre as head coach”, said Canada Soccer Chief Operating Officer, Mathieu Chamberland. “His experience and vision will be key assets to the success of this team.”

This appointment marks a key moment in the program’s history as Canada prepares to compete in the inaugural Concacaf Women’s Futsal Championship beginning in April, with World Cup qualification at stake.

“It’s a huge honor to join Canada Soccer as the Head Coach of the Women’s futsal National Team”, said Da Rocha. “I am excited to take this challenge to qualify our nation to the first ever women’s FIFA futsal World Cup. I look forward to this great journey and making futsal fans across the country proud of their team.”

More updates about the Concacaf Women’s Futsal Championship will be provided in the weeks to come.
