Youth teams win titles at Toyota National Championships

Saskatoon Alliance, Edmonton BTB SC, Burlington Force SA and Edmonton Warriors SC were the big winners in the youth divisions at this year’s Toyota National Championships. Saskatoon Alliance (boys) and Edmonton BTB SC (girls) won their respective youth divisions at the U-17 Cup in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia while Burlington Force SA (boys) and Edmonton Warriors SC (girls) won their respective youth divisions at the U-15 Cup in Quinte West, Ontario.

Canada Soccer’s Toyota National Championships are hosted each October across six divisions in three venues: the men’s Challenge Trophy and women’s Jubilee Trophy (adult competitions) in Surrey, British Columbia; the U-17 Cup in Cape Breton for boys and girls; the U-15 Cup in Quinte West for boys and girls. In the open amateur competitions, Ottawa’s Gloucester Celtic FC won the men’s Challenge Trophy while CS Trident Ancienne-Lorette won the women’s Jubilee Trophy.

At the Boys’ U-17 Cup in Cape Breton, Saskatoon Alliance won their first Canada Soccer youth title after a 2:1 victory over the Thornhill Bolts. Tournament MVP Nazarii Bulyhin scored the equaliser in the 52nd minute before Tao Hein scored the winner just five minutes later.

At the Girls’ U-17 Cup in Cape Breton, Edmonton BTB SC won their second Canada Soccer youth title (albeit first on the women’s side) with a 5-3 win on penalties over Winnipeg 1v1 Futbol Dreams. Tournament MVP Jill Varney was in goal for the 0:0 clean sheet and she also saved the first penalty attempt on kicks from the penalty mark.

At the Boys’ U-15 Cup in Quinte West, Ontario, Burlington Force SA won their first Canada Soccer youth title after a 1:0 victory over Edmonton BTB SC. Tournament MVP Romano Campagna scored the late winner four minutes into added time (70’+4).

At the Girls’ U-15 Cup in Quinte West, Ontario, Edmonton Warriors SC won 3:0 over Saskatoon Alliance in the Canadian Final on goals by Shelby Butler (two) and tournament MVP Hadley Nelson.
