Toyota National Championships kick off across the country

The 100th edition of Canada Soccer’s Toyota National Championships have kicked off this week across the country with men’s and women’s amateur teams in Surrey, British Columbia as well as the boys’ and girls’ youth teams in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia (U-17 Cup) and Quinte West, Ontario (U-15 Cup). In all, 60 amateur teams will compete for national titles in six divisions from the men’s Challenge Trophy and women’s Jubilee Trophy in Surrey to the youth titles in Cape Breton and Quinte West.

Canada Soccer President Peter Augruso helped kick off the Toyota National Championships in Quinte West alongside Mayor Jim Harrison and Bay of Quinte Member of Provincial Parliament Tyler Allsopp. As part of the U-15 Cup Opening Ceremonies, CFB Trenton’s 424 Squadron Search and Rescue Technicians delivered soccer balls by parachute.

In Cape Breton, the U-17 Cup Opening Ceremonies were hosted Wednesday evening at Centre 200 with all 22 youth teams in attendance as well as Cape Breton Regional Municipality Mayor Amanda McDougall. The special evening featured guest speakers and a special performance from Gearl, a local Mi’kmaq hip-hop artist from Eskasoni First Nation.

Canada Soccer’s 2024 Toyota National Championships run from 9 to 14 October in three venues. Earlier this year, the inaugural Player-Development Program Championship featured 28 teams across the PDP U-17 Cup and PDP U-15 Cup for boys and girls. Across the Futsal Canadian Championship, PDP Championship and Toyota National Championships, Canada Soccer’s national amateur competitions have featured a record 105 qualified teams in 2024.
