21 players representing #CANM20 looking to qualify for U-20 FIFA World Cup
Canada Soccer has announced the 21 players led by Head Coach Andrew Olivieri that will represent Canada in the 2024 U-20 Concacaf Championship in Mexico. The tournament also serves as a qualifier for the 2025 U-20 FIFA World Cup Chile, with the semi-finalists earning their spot at the bi-annual tournament.
Canada have been drawn in Group B and will face Honduras on 20 July, last year’s tournament runners-up Dominican Republic on 23 July and El Salvador on 26 July.
Following group stage play, the top two teams of each group and the two-best third-placed teams will advance to the quarter-finals.
“We’re heading into this tournament fully aware of the challenge it has been for Canada at this age group over the last couple of decades. But there is a belief that the talent in this group will allow us to approach the moment with measured confidence. There has been some positive work being done within the organization to build greater opportunities for our youth system to move forward. This group is completely determined to achieve success and qualify for the World Cup.” – Andrew Olivieri, CANM20 Head Coach and Men’s National Youth Director
Overall, 15 players are returning from the squad that played in the 2024 CONCACAF Championship qualifiers. Back in February, Canada dominated their qualifying group winning all three games scoring 15 goals and conceding none.
Unavailable for selection due to club commitments are Ivan Pavela and Jovan Ivanesivec while Luc De Fougerolles will prepare for pre-season with Fulham FC after spending time with the senior Men’s National Team. Lazar Stefanovic was unavailable for selection due to injury.
Canada are making their 25th appearance at the Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship having won the tournament twice (1986, 1996). At the 2022 edition of the bi-annual competition, Canada advanced from their group but were eliminated in the Round of 16 to Guatemala on penalties.
All of Canada’s matches will air exclusively on OneSoccer, available on the fuboTV Canada platform, as a linear channel on Telus’s Optik TV (Channel 980), as well as online at OneSoccer.ca and through the OneSoccer app.
Fans will find coverage across Canada Soccer’s digital channels on Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube featuring the hashtag #CANM20.
