CANWNT’s Summer Send-Off Series June 4 match will be a special Pride celebration
In celebration of Pride Month, Canada Soccer announced today that the upcoming CANWNT match on Tuesday 4 June in Toronto against Mexico will be a special Pride Match. The match, part of CANWNT’s Summer Send-Off Series presented by CIBC and Visa, will include a number of special activities celebrating Pride month.
Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team will wear a special kit which features Pride-themed numbers, while the stadium will be dressed in Pride-themed branding to reflect the celebration. Fans are encouraged to join the festivities to celebrate the 2SLGBTQ+ community, with special activations and giveaways from Canada Soccer available as part of the pre-match fan festival outside of the stadium.
“The values of inclusion and belonging are fundamental to the success of our program, and we are so proud to be taking part in this match. Our players and staff are excited to be celebrating Pride alongside our amazing fans and this will be a special way to send off our players ahead of this summer’s Olympics,” said Bev Priestman, Women’s National Team Head Coach.
In November 2022, Canada Soccer signed a four-year partnership with You Can Play, a world leading 2SLGBTQ+ organization aiming to make the world of sport a more inclusive and safe space. Since the start of that partnership, You Can Play has helped the Federation to make positive strides forward on making soccer a more accessible place, including:
“It’s important for us to continue to do the work needed to ensure we are a leading organization on matters of inclusion and equity. We welcome everyone to our matches and to be involved with our great sport, and this match is an expression of that commitment.” added Kevin Blue, CEO and General Secretary, Canada Soccer.
