Francis Millien honoured by the Soccer Québec Hall of Fame

Francis Millien has been honoured by the Soccer Québec Hall of Fame for his extraordinary work as a soccer builder in his home province of Québec. Mr. Millien, nicknamed “Mr. Soccer” in Montréal, has served the sport as a coach, broadcaster and administrator for more than 40 years at the local, provincial, national and international levels.

Mr. Millen earned his Canada Soccer Coaching A Diploma in the 1980s and he was notably an Assistant Coach to Bruce Twamley with Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team in the summer of 1989 when Canada won the Jeux de la Francophonie in Morocco. During the 1980s and 1990s, he was also Head Coach of Soccer Québec’s Canada Games provincial team (1989 and 1993) and an assistant coach with FC Supra Montréal and then the Impact de Montréal.

As an administrator, Mr. Millien served as President of ARS Concordia and he was the Venue Technical lead for the Montréal site during the FIFA U-16 World Tournament Canada 1987. He later served as a Canada Soccer Director (2008 to 2010) and then the Montréal Venue General Manager for the National Organising Committee to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014 and record-setting FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.

In 2007, he was awarded « Le Maurice » from Sports Québec for his work as a national volunteer.

As an honoured member, Mr. Millen follows in the footsteps of his late father Robert Millien who was inducted to the Soccer Québec Hall of Fame as a builder in 2004.
