Christine Sinclair Announces Retirement from International Football
Olympic champion, world record holder and forever Canadian hero Christine Sinclair will play her last international match in 2023. It will mark the end to a remarkable 24-year international career in which Canada’s “Captain Everything” has both carried and transformed a nation like few other athletes in the history of Canadian sport.
Mathieu Choinière and Harry Paton #CANMNT Debuts
Mathieu Choinière and Harry Paton both made their international “A” debuts in an away Men’s International Friendly at Niigata, Japan on Friday 13 October 2023. The two debutants featured as second-half substitutes in the 4:1 loss to Japan at Denka Big Swan Stadium with 37,125 fans in attendance.
Two Sold-Out Crowds in Montréal and Halifax
A full house of 19,619 watched Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team on Saturday afternoon in Montréal, the largest crowd ever for an international friendly in the province of Québec. The following match, Jordyn Huitema scored the second-half match winner as Canada won 2:0 over Brazil at sold-out Wanderers Ground on Tuesday night in Halifax in front of a record crowd for any NT in Nova Scotia.
CP Football Team Nominated for Santiago 2023 Canadian ParaPan Am Team
Fourteen athletes have been nominated to Canada’s CP Football team for the Santiago 2023 Parapan Am Games, the Canadian Paralympic Committee and Canada Soccer announced Monday. CP Football was added back to the Parapan Am program in 2015 after having not been contested since 2007. In Canada’s last appearance in the sport, at the Toronto 2015 Games, the squad was fourth.
Toyota National Championships Winners Crowned
Burnaby FC U-17 Boys and U-17 Girls, Edmonton BTB SC U-15 Boys and CS Longueil U-15 Girls all won gold medals on Teck Finals Day at Canada Soccer’s 2023 Toyota National Championships in the youth categories. Burnaby FC were double winners at the U-17 Cup in Moncton, New Brunswick while Edmonton BTB SC and CS Longueil were the winners in the U-15 Cup at Waterloo, Ontario.
Christine Sinclair Swaps Shirts with Sporting Legends
Football heroes Marta and Christine Sinclair, facing each other for the last time on the international stage on Tuesday night in Halifax, exchanged special shirts before the Canada-Brazil match at Wanderers Ground. Marta presented Sinclair with a Brazil “12 Sinclair” shirt while Sinclair presented Marta with a Canada “10 Marta” shirt before the sold-out 2023 Women’s International Friendly, the first ever in the province of Nova Scotia.
