Shannon Galway from Holy Cross FC in St. John’s and Javane Henry from West Ottawa SC were named Most Valuable Players at Canada Soccer’s 2023 Toyota National Championships in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Galway led Holy Cross FC to their second-straight Jubilee Trophy as national amateur women’s champions while Henry led West Ottawa SC to their first Challenge Trophy as national amateur men’s champions.

Galway posted five-consecutive clean sheets at this year’s Jubilee Trophy finals as Holy Cross FC became the first Newfoundland and Labrador team to win back-to-back National Championships. A back up last year to Jamie Crocker, teen goalkeeper Galway posted clean sheets against Winsloe-Charlottetown Royals FC, Edmonton Drillers SC, Fredericton Picaroons and Surrey United SC in the group phase. On Teck Finals Monday, she helped Holy Cross FC win 2:0 over CS Mont Royal-Outremont in the Jubilee Trophy Final.

Henry was a powerful force on the attack for West Ottawa SC throughout the week in Halifax. He scored Ottawa’s match winner in their Wednesday opener against Rapides Chaudière-Ouest. In the Challenge Trophy Final on Teck Finals Day, he was part of the build up on Zach El Shafei’s 1:0 match winner for a 1:0 win over hometown Western Halifax FC. Across the tournament, Henry helped West Ottawa post four wins in five matches.

Canada Soccer’s Toyota National Championships serves as our nation’s premier amateur competition and provides a meaningful soccer experience for participating teams and their players, coaches, support staff, as well as for officials and volunteers.
