Canada will join 23 other nations at the FIFAe Nations Cup in July
Canada Soccer’s eNational Team qualifies for the 2023 edition of the FIFAe Nations Cup after a strong weekend of FIFA eFootball. Canada lost their semi-final match against the USA but would climb back through the second chance bracket, defeating Mexico and Panama to secure their spot at the FIFAe Nations Cup. This will be Canada’s second time at the FIFAe Nations Cup, having now qualified in back to back years.
All matches were played 2v2 on the PlayStation 5 version of FIFA 23 using drafted FIFA Ultimate Team Squads.
Canada’s AgitPower, AJ and Goalmachine played through a difficult two day group stage, finishing 2nd overall with a record of 4-3-3, playing each Nation once on Saturday and again on Sunday. On Saturday Canada lost to Mexico, drew Costa Rica and won against USA, Honduras and Panama. Sunday, Canada fell to Mexico and Costa Rica, drew against USA and Honduras, and beat Panama. A total of 15 points after the second day of group stage action would be enough to see Canada finish 2nd in the group, setting up a semi-final match up against USA.
USA would take both matches in the two leg semi-final with an aggregate score of 4-0, sending Canada into the second chance bracket. Panama would upset Mexico in the other semi-final, setting up a final match of USA v Panama and a second chance semi-final match between Mexico and Canada. USA would defeat Panama, and would be the first team from North & Central America to secure their qualification. Canada defeated Mexico with an aggregate score of 3-2, setting up a second chance final match against Panama.
Canada would take the first match 4-1, and continue the performance through the second leg, winning 3-0 finishing with an aggregate score of 7-1 over Panama, qualifying for the FIFAe Nations Cup.
USA and Canada will join 23 other nations at the FIFAe Nations Cup in July. More information on the FIFAe Nations Cup, including location and exact dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
