Ligue 1
Canadian striker Jonathan David set a Lille OSC club record for most career goals scored in Ligue 1, the top division in France. Now in his third season, the 22-year old David from Ottawa, Ontario scored his 36th and 37th Ligue 1 goals on Friday 14 October, a 3:0 win over Strasbourg on Matchday 11 of the 2022-23 season.
With the two goals, David tied and surpassed former Lille OSC striker Eden Hazard for the club record in Ligue 1. Already this season, David has scored nine goals in 11 matches to lead the 20-team league in goalscoring.
David scored his first Ligue 1 goal on 22 November 2020 in a 4:0 win over FC Lorient. He finished that first season with 13 goals, a new record for most goals scored by a Canadian in a top-5 European league (England, France, Germany, Italy or Spain). He followed up by scoring 15 goals during the 2021-22 season and is already on pace to set a new personal best during the 38-match 2022-23 season.
In all, David has scored 41 goals across all competitions for Lille OSC since joining them in August 2020, including UEFA Champions League and Coupe de France.
