Saskatoon’s YXE FC won Canada Soccer’s 2022 Western Masters regional championship in Edmonton, Alberta. YXE FC won the weekend tournament at the Bill Gilhespy Soccer Facilities by finishing in first place with six points and a +2 goals difference.
Saskatoon’s winning side featured Daniel Alvarado, James Arthurs, Ryan Chesters, Fitzroy Christie, Jeff Friesen, Dwayne Gareau, Carlos Gonzalez, Jamie Hembroff, Ian Haug, Shane Hopper, Kevin James, Cameron Klein, Graham Krieg, Brad Lynch, Ryan McAllister, Thiago Prado, Cory Regel, Nathan Reis, Sean Riggs, Jordan Schidlowsky, Makr Thompson, Odean Thompson, Jay Tomchuk, and Michael Veszi. The team is led by coach Ian Phillips.
The weekend tournament featured a round-robin format with teams from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatoon and Manitoba. Each team played on successive days from 23 to 25 September. Players in the competition are all 35 years or older.
YXE FC won 1:0 over Port Moody SC Rangers on Friday and 1:0 over Sherwood Park Phoenix on Saturday, but lost 6:1 to Winnipeg Bandits FC on Sunday.
