Yallop Announces Roster For San Jose

Ottawa, Ontario – Canadian Men’s World Cup Team head coach Frank Yallop today named a 16-player roster for the upcoming exhibition game against the San Jose Earthquakes on June 5, 2004. The kickoff is 7:00 p.m. PT.

The squad will fly from Toronto to San Jose on Wednesday, June 2 and will return to Toronto and Ottawa on June 6. The team will resume training in Ottawa on Tuesday, June 8 at Carleton University at 4:00 p.m.

The San Jose game will be Yallop’s final opportunity to assess players before the World Cup Qualifying series against Belize on June 13 and 16 in Kingston, Ontario.

Paul Stalteri joins the squad after winning the German Cup with Werder Bremen on Saturday to complete the domestic double. Bremen won the Bundesliga earlier in May.

Olivier Occean has returned to Norway after earning his first cap in the 1-0 loss to Wales on May 30. Mark Watson was recalled by the Charleston Battery and will miss the exhibition game but will rejoin the team in Ottawa.

“There were many positive developments in the Wales game and I am very much looking forward to returning to San Jose with Canada,” said Yallop who coached the Earthquakes to two MLS championships in three years. “This will be our final game before Belize and I have a pretty good idea of the final squad but it will give some players another chance to show me what they can do.”
