Canada ranks ninth within CONCACAF in the most recent FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings, the last monthly ranking of the 2008 season. USA is once again the confederation leader while Mexico, Honduras and Costa Rica trail to make up the CONCACAF top-four.
The FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings looks at each country’s international results from the last four years. The ranking takes into account the result, the importance of the match, the strength of the opponent, the regional strength, the time period, and the number of matches per year.

Canada lost 24 points since the last FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings in November, finishing the month with 410 points. Canada lost its lone match in November by the score of 0:3 to Jamaica. That 19 November match also ended both Canada and Jamaica’s campaign for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa(tm) Qualifiers. Jamaica finished third and Canada finished fourth in the so-called CONCACAF “Group of Death”. Mexico and Honduras, meanwhile, finished first and second in the group.
Grenada was in fact the biggest climber within CONCACAF this past month, gaining 70 points and climbing six spots within the confederation (from 19th to 13th). Honduras and Jamaica had the next biggest jumps, each gaining 66 points on the table (Honduras remained firmed in third place while Jamaica jumped from 8th to 3rd place). Barbados featured the biggest drop, falling 103 points and three spots within the CONCACAF ranking (from 10th to 13th place).
Spain (1663), Germany (1381), Netherlands (1338) and Italy (1326) are the top-four ranked countries in world. USA ranks 22nd with 853 points, Mexico ranks 26th with 811 points, and Canada ranks 90th with 410 points. Canada finished the year with 166 fewer points than it had in December 2007 (576 points, fourth in CONCACAF).
The men’s national team posted a record of three wins, three draws and six losses. It took part in 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Qualifiers, but was eliminated from the Group of Death in the CONCACAF semi-final stage in November. Canada scored in nine consecutive matches, one off the men’s team record.
