Rogers Sportsnet to feature quarter-final clash

Rogers Sportsnet will broadcast Canada’s quarter-final match this Saturday 18 July from the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Canada’s match will broadcast live on all four Sportsnet channels at 17.00 ET / 14.00 PT. The Canada-Honduras match is the first of four quarter-final matches at this year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.



Canada reached the quarter-final stage after finishing first in Group A with seven points in three games. Canada won 1:0 over Jamaica on 3 July in Los Angeles, won 1:0 over El Salvador on 7 July in Columbus, and drew 2:2 with Costa Rica on 10 July in Miami. All three Canada games were broadcast live on Sportsnet.



In the knock-out phase, Canada faces Honduras and USA faces Panama on 18 July at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA. One day later, Guadeloupe faces Costa Rica and Mexico faces Haiti at the Cowboys New Stadium in Dallas, TX.



Canada has an all-time record of five wins, four draws and eight losses against Honduras. That record is even, however, in CONCACAF Gold Cup competition (one win, one loss). Just last year, Canada lost two matches to Honduras in FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers. Canada’s campaign turned for the worse in Montréal after Tomasz Radzinski was pushed into the boards (he left the game with an injury) and the opponent reversed a 1-0 Canadian lead into a 2:1 Honduras victory.



The 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup runs 3-26 July in 13 cities across USA. After playing in three cities in the opening phase, Canada plays in its fourth city this 18 July in Philadelphia. From the quarter-final stage, Canada can move to Chicago, IL for the semi-final stage and then New York, NY for the 26 July final.
