FIFA has named 10 Canadians (five Referees and five Assistant Referees) to its 2014 List of Referees.
FIFA has named 10 Canadians to its 2014 List of Referees.
These 10 officials (five Referees and five Assistant Referees) may be appointed to international tournaments, including the FIFA U-17 World Cup Costa Rica 2014 (15 March–4 April), FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 (12 June–13 July), FIFA Club World Cup Morocco 2014 (10-20 December) and FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2014 (5-24 August).
The five Referees are: Carol Anne Chénard, David Gantar, Michelle Pye, Sheena Dickson and first-time appointee Marie-Soleil Beaudoin.
The Assistant Referees are: Philippe Brière, Daniel Belleau, Joe Fletcher, Marie-Josée Charbonneau and Suzanne Morisset.
Of note: long-serving FIFA referees Silviu Petrescu, Paul Ward and Darren Clark have retired. However, Petrescu, who has reached the mandatory FIFA retirement age (45), will continue officiating at the national level and in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Professional Referees Organization (PRO).
