Make it to the Hex and anything can happen

The Road to Russia 2018

Canada are amongst the 11 remaining CONCACAF nations still in the hunt for a spot at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™. The CONCACAF nations are split into three groups for the continent’s 2015-2016 semi-final stage. The top-two nations in each group will advance to the final round in 2017, from which three nations qualify for Russia 2018 and the fourth team advances to an intercontinental playoff against a team from Asia.‎

The final CONCACAF round is better known as the “Hex,” with each of six nations playing 10 matches in 2016-2017 (one at home and one away against each opponent).

The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ is the biggest single-sport event in the world. From 211 member associations from around the world, 32 finalists will qualify for the 32-day event that is played in 11 cities from 14 June to 15 July 2018.

GROUP A

In Group A, Canada, El Salvador, and Honduras are fighting for second place, with Mexico the only nation already qualified after four straight wins in November and March. Only Canada will avoid Mexico in the final two matches, with El Salvador hosting Mexico on Friday 2 September and then Honduras traveling to Mexico for Tuesday 6 September.‎

‎Honduras (four points, +4 goals difference) will host Canada (four points, -1 goals) on the Friday night, while Canada will host El Salvador (two points, -5 goals‎) on the Tuesday night at BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia.

‎1. Mexico 12 points
‎2. Honduras 4 points / -1 goals
‎3. Canada 4 points / -4 goals
‎4. El Salvador 2 points / -5 goals‎

GROUP B

In Group B, all four nations can still advance, although Haiti must win both of their matches against Costa Rica and Jamaica to sneak into the final round. Group leaders Costa Rica (10 points, +5 goals difference) will play away against Haiti and then at home against Panama. Second-place Panama (seven points, +4 goals difference) start at home against Jamaica, then play away against Costa Rica.

Like Haiti, Jamaica also need to make up ground in the final two matches. Sitting in third place (four points, -4 goals), Jamaica can make up ground on the road against Panama before closing out their series at home against last-place Haiti.

1. Costa Rica 10 points / + 5 goals
2. Panama 7 points / +2 goals
3. Jamaica 4 points / -4 goals
4. Haiti 1 point / -3 goals

GROUP C

In Group C, only three nations can still advance after St. Vincent and the Grenadines were eliminated in March. Group leaders Trinidad and Tobago are closest to the Hex after accumulating 10 points in four matches. Trinidad and Tobago need only a draw at home on Friday night against Guatemala to book their spot into the final round.

‎In the final two matches, Trinidad and Tobago will play at home against Guatemala (six points, +1 goal difference) and away against USA (seven points, +7 goals). Both USA (away) and Guatemala (at home) will face St. Vincent and the Grenadines on the opposite dates.

1. Trinidad and Tobago 10 points / +8 goals
2. USA 7 points / +7 goals
3. Guatemala 6 points / +1 goals
