Canada v Morocco
Coming off a 4:0 win in the first of two matches during the current international break, Canada will face Morocco in a Men’s International Friendly match on Tuesday 11 October. The 2016 international match will be played at the Grand Stade de Marrakech with a 20.00 local kick off.
The Tuesday international match will be broadcast live on CanadaSoccer.com at 15.00 ET / 12.00 PT.
Canada won their first match during this window 4:0 against Mauritania on Thursday 6 October. Canada stopped a penalty in the first half and then scored three quick goals early in the second half before adding a fourth goal before the final whistle.
While Mauritania was equally in transition from one cycle to the next, Canada’s next opponent are still in the midst of 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Qualifiers. Morocco recently drew away 0:0 against Gabon on Saturday night.
“Morocco will be a good test and I think we’re up for it,” said Tosaint Ricketts, who scored two goals in the Thursday win over Mauritania. “These are the games we need. We need to play teams that are going to push us mentally and physically – that’s the way to grow.”
In 2016, Morocco have posted five wins, four draws, and just one loss in 10 international matches.
“It’s been a good camp for us following a tough exit from FIFA World Cup Qualifiers,” said Ricketts. “It’s good to get back with the boys, get some new faces in, and start a new chapter for this team.”
Over the last two years, Canada have posted a record of nine wins, seven draws, and six losses in 22 international matches. That record includes the recent 4:0 win in which Simon Thomas made the penalty save and Tosaint Ricketts (two), Steven Vitória, and Marcus Haber scored for Canada.
All time, Canada have three wins in their history against African nations. Against Morocco, Canada lost 2:3 in their first encounter in 1984, but then drew 1:1 in their second meeting on 1 June 1994.
Beyond the two October 2016 matches, the next FIFA window for international competition will be played in November. Canada are scheduled to face Korea Republic on Friday 11 November 2016.
