Canada 0-2 Brazil
Canada’s Women’s National Team Head Coach John Herdman is looking firmly into the future after Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Brazil in Toronto. Five time FIFA Player of the Year Marta scored both of Brazil’s goals in the first half (11th and 41st minutes).
“We are focusing on our next match in Ottawa,” said Herdman after the Toronto game. “We have a big game there, so we have to dust ourselves off and put another performance on. We will go in to Ottawa one nil to Brazil, but will get them in Ottawa – I am sure of that.”
Ashley Lawrence was awarded player of the match for Canada. Playing at left fullback, a recent change for the young Bramptonian, Lawrence played well both defensively and offensively.
“She was tested defensively tonight, against world-class wingers,” said Herdman. “She showed her pace in the recovery and for the next game she will be challenged to get forward more, and we will be looking to get her into situations where she can be a real threat.”
The match was played in front of an assistance of over 28,000 fans. It was the second largest attendance ever for a women’s national team international friendly on home soil and the largest crowd for any national team event at BMO Field.
