Tom Robertson... born May 1881... donated in 1914, the Tom Robertson Challenge Cup was presented for competition amongst Toronto & District FA clubs with “proceeds of which are to go to a fund for injured players”... worked for the Dominion Bridge Company...
honoured as a Canada Soccer Life Member... posthumously honoured by the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame (he was was shortlisted as an alternate builder in the inaugural year of 2000 and later honoured in 2007)...
wrote Tom Watson in 1915, he “more than any other was responsible for the establishment of the old country game in Canada and the success which at the present day is now identified with it”... also wrote Tom Watson in 1915, “his greatest work in connection with football came when he visited Quebec province and secured the able assistance of Mr. F.A. Barter, and the Dominion of Canada Football Association sprang into being; for three years he has been secretary of the national body and much of the success it has met with is due to his untiring efforts”... wrote Colin Jose, Robertson once “received an injury as a player that kept him hospital for 53 weeks necessitating many operations and finally the loss of a limb”...
