Frederick Dierden... soccer family (brother Art)... his father Jabez was born in Haydock while his mother Hannah was born in Newcastle-Under-Lyme... he was still a young boy when his family moved from Earlestown to Toronto in the early 1900s... he was 19 years old when he enlisted for the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force on 7 December 1914 in Toronto, ON... married to his wife Mary Dierden... he was 64 years old when he passed away in Toronto, ON on 1 July 1960...
posthumously honoured by the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame as a player... part of the Canadian team that toured Australia for more than three months in 1924, recognised as a Canada Soccer Team of Distinction... as part of Canada Soccer’s Centennial in 2012, recognised in the Best XI from 50 Years (1912-1962)...
as noted in a 1924 Australian program, Dierden was “a clever centre half (that) some say (is) the best in the east”... as noted in a 1924 Brisbane program, Dierden was “the best right or centre half in Canada”...
