Emily Jane Zurrer... she/her... sports family (volleyball cousin Robbie)... she was four years old when her family moved from Vancouver to Crofton... grew up participating in soccer, karate, rugby, track, basketball and volleyball.... she was seven years old when she started playing for Cowichan Valley... she was 12 years old when she earned her black belt in karate... hobbies include snowboarding, outdoors, hanging out with friends and family... growing up, favourites included Gerard Piqué, Diego Forlan, Mario Balotelli... other favourites included Pavel Bure, Vancouver Canucks.. earned a Bachelor of Science, Advertising, from the University of Illinois in 2009... in 2013, her and Emily Zurrer started Sweet Ride and Froyo Waffles, a food truck business in British Columbia... served as a brand ambassador for Umbro Canada... ran her first marathon in May 2016 (the Vancouver Marathon)...
honoured by the Soccer Hall of Fame of British Columbia. the North Cowichan-Duncan Sports Hall of Fame, and the University of Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame... as part of the London 2012 team, honoured by the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame and BC Sports Hall of Fame... she was celebrated as part of the London 2012 Olympic soccer team honoured in the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame’s Class of 2019 in Toronto on 23 October 2019 (she was one of 18 players that attended the event)...
Concacaf champion with Canada (2010)… won a bronze medal with Canada at the London 2012 Olympic Games... represented Canada at two FIFA Women’s World Cups (Germany 2011 and Canada 2015)... in all, represented Canada at two Olympic Games (Beijing 2008 and London 2012)... career 82 international “A” appearances across 12 years from 2004 to 2015 with Canada Soccer's Women's National Team… after her playing career, she was celebrated by Canada Soccer on 4 February 2017 in the half-time presentation to former Olympic bronze medal winners at BC Place in Vancouver (on that day, Karina LeBlanc, Carmelina Moscato and Emily Zurrer were honoured at the Canada match)...
represented Canada at two FIFA youth tournaments (U-19 at Thailand 2004; U-20 at Russia 2006)... won two Concacaf youth medals with Canada (2004 gold U-19 and 2006 silver U-20)…
in 2013, was one of 28 athletes featured in Sportsnet Magazine’s The Beauty of Sport...
said of her 2006 head injury in which she took 18 stitches before the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, “I wish they had taken pictures before they stitched me up; (Dr. Cathy Campbell) did a layer underneath and a layer over top; I didn’t cry the whole time and I was completely fine; I only got emotional after they brought me to the mirror to show me”... said Emily in 2011 of her many knocks as a defender, “if it is just bleeding, then I can play through things like that”...
