honoured as a Canada Soccer Life Member... honoured by the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame (he was was shortlisted as an alternate builder in the inaugural year of 2000 and later honoured in 2003)... honoured as an Ontario Soccer Life Member...
oversaw nearly quadruple growth of the Canadian Youth Soccer Association over 12 years (from 52,000 players in 1969 to 200,000 players in 1981)...
wrote Eric King in 1981, Southard “has made a distinguished contribution to the growth and development of soccer generally and youth soccer particularly at the national level... the growth of youth soccer under Mr. Southard’s direction can only be described as phenomenal”... also wrote King in 1981, “Mr. Southard is one of those rare breed of volunteers without whom the development of a comprehensive amateur sports program would not be possible”... wrote Southard in 2002, “since I kicked a soccer ball at six or seven years old, my universe turned around football.
