Donald Gladwin Archibald... both his parents Rupert and Ida were born in Nova Scotia... he was six years old when his family moved from Truro, NS to North Vancouver, BC in 1912... he was 61 years old when he passed away on 10 May 1968...
as noted in 1927 in the Toronto Telegram, Archibald “has proved a prolific goal scorer”... as observed in 1927 after a match in New Zealand, “a very dangerous man when within striking distance of goal”... once wrote historian Colin Jose, Don Archibald “was described as speedy, as possessing a tremendous shot with either foot”... wrote Dave Turner of the 1927 tour in New Zealand, Archibald “gave splendid demonstrations of how handy the ability to head a ball in the forward line is, securing many an unlooked for goal, from the opposition standpoint, by this means”... wrote Jack Monaghan in 1968 after Don’s passing, “in 1927, I vividly recall Don for his fine qualities, not only as a soccer player, but as a very well-liked young man on and off the field of play; he was greatly admired by all members of the touring team for his clean, gentlemanly conduct on the field and for his strength, which was never used unduly on his opponents”...
