Bill Findler

William Henry Findler... both his father John and mother Florence were born in Staffordshire, ENG... he was 21 years old when he landed in Canada on 25 April 1927... he served as an electrician in the Royal Canadian Air Force... he was 77 years old when he passed away in New Westminster, BC on 30 December 1982...

posthumously honoured by the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame as a player... posthumously honoured by the Soccer Hall of Fame of British Columbia...

as noted in 1928 in the Edmonton Journal, “a great shot and knows how to distribute the ball to his wingmen”... as noted in 1929 in an Edmonton Canadian National news bulletin, he was “a great leader when attacking, can distribute the balls splendidly, keeps the game open, and is a real menace to opposing goalkeepers”... as noted in 1929 in the Calgary Albertan, he was “the best centre forward in the Province and could hold his own with any leader in the Dominion”... as noted after he signed with Westminster Royals FC, he was said “to be another Jock Coulter” (who, at the time, was unavailable through injury)...

wrote Jeff Cross in 1959, “a man who refuses to see anything but silver linings in the black clouds”... as noted in his 1982 obituary, “under Findler’s leadership, the (Pacific) Coast League drew large crowds to Callister Park”... said Charlie Alcock in 1982, “he was a great president of the Coast League; he did a very good job at a time when the Coast League was in its heyday. The league did very well under his leadership”...
